Fertility SUPPORT
Acupuncture + Fertility
Acupuncture offers a gentle, holistic approach to supporting fertility by helping the body return to balance and vitality. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, fertility is viewed as an expression of overall health — when the nervous system is regulated, circulation is properly flowing, and hormones are supported and balanced, the body is on the right path to conceive.
Acupuncture stimulates healthy blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, regulates the menstrual cycle, supports regular ovulation, and reduces stress, which can have a negative impact on fertility. Whether preparing for conception, actively trying to conceive (TTC), or undergoing IVF or IUI, acupuncture helps create a warm, well-balanced, and receptive environment for pregnancy — supporting both the physical and emotional aspects of the fertility journey.
Preconception CARE
Preconception care focuses on strengthening the foundation of fertility before actively trying to conceive. In this phase we talk about regulating the menstrual cycle, making sure you exhibit healthy (and noticeable) ovulation, improving egg quality (through lifestyle and supplement recommendations), balancing hormones, and calming the nervous system.
Getting routine acupuncture during this time helps build blood and energy reserves, support digestion and sleep, reduce stress, and bring the body into a more resilient and receptive state. Ideally, preconception care begins three to six months before trying to conceive, allowing the body time to restore balance and ignite vitality. Please remember that preconception wellness is just as essential as conception and pregnancy — we honor this time for getting both partners in optimal health.
TRYING TO CONCEIVE (TTC)
For those actively trying to conceive, acupuncture supports each phase of the menstrual cycle — encouraging smooth ovulation, healthy uterine lining development, and proper implantation. Regular acupuncture treatments are often aligned with the phases of your cycle to support hormonal balance, improve uterine circulation, and reduce stress, which can interfere with conception.
Chinese medicine encourages intentional lifestyle and dietary shifts during this phase, including keeping the body and feet warm, supporting the Kidney system, and choosing warming, nourishing foods that promote uterine health. Simple practices like wearing socks, avoiding cold foods and beverages, and consuming cooked meals can make a significant difference over time. We also highly recommend trying Chinese herbal formulas — Wisdom of the Womb is a reputable company that provides a few options for couples TTC (Fertile Mama Tea has been a wonderful addition to our client's fertility successes).
FERTILITY TIPS IN CHINESE MEDICINE
Warm feet = warm womb! We love using this motto to remind our clients how important it is to keep your feet warm at all costs, throughout your cycle. Like the saying goes "there's a bun in the oven", we need to keep that oven warm for optimal functionality. The Kidney meridian begins at the soles of the feet and travels right up to the uterus. When there are signs of cold or stagnation in the uterus (painful periods, eases with warmth), this is when it is super important to abide by TCM's cozy feet rules.
Just like having toasty toes, we also suggest consuming warm, cooked, nourishing meals during all phases of your cycle. Enjoying cold (in nature and temperature) or raw foods is quite taxing on the body to break down; and we want to preserve your energy as best we can. So eating foods that have been prepared with ingredients to intentionally help warm you from the inside out is one of our TCM tips we will always stand by — think: soups, crockpot meals, roasted vegetables, bone broth, ginger, turmeric etc.
Quiet the mind, cancel the outside noise, and go inward. Allow yourself to regularly drop into a state of peace, where you begin to feel your mind shift to low volume. By bringing your body into a parasympathetic state, you are calming the central nervous system and reducing cortisol levels. One of our favorite ways to do this is through guided meditation and breath work. Choose an app (we love Insight Timer) and select a guided meditation you resonate with — it can be one for gratitude, letting go, or even abundance affirmations.
Fertility blooms and blossoms when the womb space is nourished with warmth, and balance is restored in the body.
